Just You

At 19.5 months, just over a year and a half, your personality has taken another step forward on the stage. It seems that your recent and somewhat accelerated verbal development has opened a new window into who you are. Suddenly, you are another notch up on the little kid to big kid scale. You run around sprouting your new words here and there, constantly surprising me with new ones.
I only count the ones you say on your own, not all the words that you repeat from me. No word is too big for you to try. You even tried to say cantaloupe a couple days ago.You have a little temper which I think is just a little of what we have yet to see as you get close to the terrible twos stage. You get mad at your sister and yell "don't" at her. Sometimes you smack her and even pull her hair. Sometimes, she deserves it, but you can be a meanie too. You've thrown some fits here and there, throwing yourself on the floor and crying but you don't have much staying power. They only last a few seconds. It's not like I'm going to gratify that with even the acknowledgement that you're in the room with me. What you think you're like the first one who has ever come up with this? -please.
Now that our play set is done, we go out to play as weather allows. As soon as we had the "sure steps" installed for the slide, you were up there in just a leap and a bound. I thought I was going to have to spend weeks holding your hand, training you how to go up. Once you get to the top, I spend a few seconds having a heart attack as I can barely reach you with the tip of my hand while you twirl around this way and that deciding which way your going to send your uncontrolled body down the slide. The slide is still a bit beyond your skill, but you don't know any better. You're just one of the kids.
Your motor skills are improving and you can now successfully make contact with the soccer ball and your foot. Unfortunately, you have also been trying this out with the lamp shade in my room and the dogs. (Definitely the boy genes working here). You can stack large lego blocks and pull them apart. For quite a while now, you have been pointing remotes at the TV and trying to fling them back and forth a la wii style; thankfully not letting them go. Thank you, really, I really appreciate that you don't let them go. You're latest thing is to show off your jumping tricks. You say "watch" about fifty times and then you jump about 1 1/2 mm of the ground and stick your foot out or something. It's pretty ridiculous and somehow thoroughly entertaining at the same time. Then you do it again, and again, and again.
